50 questions to help assess the quality of your site

This is a long and fairly detailed list of questions about the website, which must ask himself the owner. If each of the questions listed below, you answered "yes" - you can be happy with yourself and consider your site best. Most of the sites is flawed in a number of reasons, mostly related to lack of funds, and losses that result from this lack.

This profile of the 50 questions can push you to the innovations on the site or may recall forgotten item from your list. In short, I'm sure the list will be helpful to many. If you think something is missing or unclear, say so in comments to the post.

Convenience

A. The content of structurally separated from other elements of the navigation?

Two. Does the site is compatible with popular browsers?

Three. How compatible is a site with coding standards W3C? Use HTML / CSS?

4. Concluded whether the signatures of all the important pictures in the tag «alt»?

Five. Is there a text description, which will give important information if there are restrictions on the display of images or multimedia files?

Navigation

A. Whether to refer the text to indicate clearly where they are.?

Two. Depth - how many clicks you need to do to get to the pages in the interior of the site.

Three. If the flash screen saver, or navigation functions are provided with the format of Java / JavaScript / Flash, is there an alternative to text?

4. Response to feedback. Does the answer immediately (within 0.1 second) after clicking on the link?

6. How easy is it to use the site? Icons clear or not? Do the buttons / links in the form of text that are not clickable, and vice versa, links / buttons that are not defined as such?

7. Clarity (which has already drawn attention to) the size and font style.

9. Each page should be a call to action. There are no dead ends.

10. Is there a site map? If not, whether the keyword search? Note: For large sites (over a thousand pages) should be a search form.

Design

A. Is the site design aesthetically appealing?

Two. The colors are harmonious and logically connected?

Three. Is it easy to perceived color choices? (For example, they have enough contrast to color-blind and people with low vision can use the site?)

4. Does the design of an audience? The standard font size should be easily read by visitors who do not know how to configure the browser.

Five. Fonts should be easy to read, carefully shrink and look good on screens with different resolutions.

Content

A. A copy of the site is compressed and informative?

Two. Style text corresponds to the destination site, and "speaks" with the target audience?

Three. Observed whether the text limit to 80 characters per line?

4. Can I change the text size in your browser, or change the settings of limited size CSS?

Five. Is there enough contrast between text and background color for easy reading?

6. Whether the text is divided into small, easy to read paragraphs, and whether it is structured using the headings, subheadings, and accents, which facilitate quick look?

7. The articles should be links to more detailed material, or define jargon. You do?

Eight. Is there a website section "About Us", which specifies the author of the project, and references to the source content, authored by the site owner is not?

9. Do you have references? You publish them on the site?

10. Do you regularly update the content and do not live on a "do and forget"?

Security

A. Are there any obvious weaknesses in the security system?

Three. Are the passwords private directory files. Htaccess?

Other marketing factors

Does the site contain elements that are designed to attract potential visitors (eg, discussion, news, feature "Tell a Friend", a forum with the possibility of a subscription, RSS feed or something like that)? Page titles start with the most relevant keyword phrase (in extreme cases, it may be second or third word in the title), which best describes the content of the page or function? If you were to tell us what this page, and you could use the 3.1 key word or phrase, what would you choose?

4. Formed if the file is Robots.txt?

Five. Whether the site map?

6. Does each page is available on at least a simple HTML-link (with no JavaScript or Flash Link)?

7. Is there a text on every page? (How much text will remain on the page, if you remove all pictures, videos, Java-applets and JavaScript code? What is left, still reveals the essence of a page?)

Eight. Each page is only available for a URL link or on the same page can be accessed by multiple links? Dual delivery of content, the canonical URL.

The material used legally / Privacy / Legitimization

A. Is your website contact page with valid addresses, toll-free number, contact form, or an available e-mail, intuitive and easy to use mechanism for feedback / contact?

The user can not accept webmaster @, or you may want to allow visitors wrote somewhere else, or maybe you want to give another form to structure the exchange of messages.

Two. Is your website a copyright notice? Whether the page with the terms of use, where you list the details that you are doing and why, and what users have to agree if they want to use the site? This must be done in order to protect themselves from complaints or worse yet, from the things that you can not control - links to websites or third advertising on automated systems, such as Google AdSense.

Three. Do you conduct privacy policy (especially if you store the data, emails, names, and cookies)?
