Testimonials easy in WordPress

If you have a corporate website that offer services in one of the usual resources is to provide customer testimonials about the virtues of your company , a simple and effective way to show your satisfaction and thereby leverage the impact of your successes to achieve new opportunities.

In WordPress is easy to add a resource of this type. Of course you can do it manually by creating a specific page and put text citations from customers like text, or use any item to take you built, how many of Elegant Themes or, as is the case, use a plugin that makes it the most elegant.

With small wonders how Testimonials Pro you have it in several ways, and can use a short code (shortcode) to insert the testimony in any post or page, or use a fully configurable widget to display in your sidebar.

Another similar plugin which adds using shortcodes witnesses is a rotary Testimonials HMS , which can also show on the page or post of your choice.

More complete IQ Testimonials for besides the above, to add images to each witness, customer information or even become a completely open system, feeding your own customers. It is the most comprehensive of such plugins.

If you like something as complete as the previous choice is very similar GC Testimonials , that does not detract.

Another very simple but very effective is visually Web testimonials , easy to use but with a really nice CSS when inserted into pages or posts.

Come on, that left no plugins, you have a nice lot , just choose the one that best suits your site or needs, but if you have a website where you offer services is a very interesting idea to add a system of evidence, I'd say imperative.

Twitter Mentions in WordPress comments

Twitter Mentions in WordPress comments

I do not know if you remember that long ago there was a series of plugins that allowed show along with the comments of WordPress Twitter mentions your entries .

Unfortunately most of them stopped working overnight.

Guilty?, Curiously the same as Twitter , it acquired the service that allowed this fancy stuff called BackType , and functionality became unavailable.

It is true that there are several options for displaying the tweets that talk about your tickets , how to Disqus, which has this capability, but if you do not use these types of services replacing native WordPress comments seemed no options.

And if there is, at least I've found a couple of them.

On one side is a very recent plugin, called, appropriately, Twitter mentions in posts , which does exactly what I say: show the tweets that talk about your entry at the end of comments .

Its operation is very simple, as you just have to activate and hourly tweets shows recent entries , but for older articles may take a few days to show them all.

Also, if you do not like the default site where they appear, or you want to display them somewhere special, you can add this code to the place where you want the item to appear :

<?php tmip_show_tweets() ?>
Another plugin we also add this utility is Mentions as Comments , oldest, which adds a few good ideas :

  • You can also include retweets
  • You can store in the WordPress database tweets as if they were pingbacks or trackbacks
  • You decide whether it will apply to all entries, most recently, the last 10, just in front, etc.
  • The tweets come in the flow of approvals and can approve or reject, etc.

You see, rather more complete than before, but hey, you decide which best serves you.

Wpautop Disable in WordPress

Wpautop Disable in WordPress
In case you did not know, and that will be a sign that I read, the function wpautop is what replaces line breaks in a text you enter using the keypad in the WordPress editor and HTML tags replaced by paragraph break .

This functionality, usually interesting, as is generating a valid XHTML adding paragraph marks <p> ... </ p> introduces spaces sometimes more and sometimes just the opposite, it adds extra spaces you'd want to have in your text .

Well, a few days ago we saw how to turn off automatic paragraphs generated by a simple code, but there is a way to do even more controlled, deciding the deactivating wpautop each entry .

If this is your case then the plugin Toggle wpautop going to be perfect. What once installed does is add a box to your WordPress editor in publishing goal box, in which you can decide if it will work on each entry wpautop or not , plain and simple, controlled and effective.

The "Like" reach WordPress
Okay, I'll say that already exist, which already exists in WordPress.com that that " like "a post, but is now also available in any WordPress hosted on your server , by the grace of JetPack, the megaplugin Automattic.

In version 2.2 of JetPack , along with a host of bugfixes detected, joins the module that adds the ability to add a " Like "to entries exactly like WordPress.com .
 add a " Like "
Just turn it on and appear in all entries , the end, or just where you want them, then find a box by that editor to disable them if you wish, if you adjust this option before the page Settings -> Share .
All others joke. That if you connect with your WordPress.com account if you have one, and receive an email when " you like "something, as usual.

The only thing I do not " like " this new module is that texts are only in English, and they'd better.
like this
Final note : check the modules after upgrading JetPack assets because it has a nasty habit of activating modules "because he wants" something that happens in this update with some solos that are activated after upgrading the plugin.

Captcha Security Code plugins for wordpress

Filled under: ,

Captcha Security Code plugins for wordpress
CAPTCHA (Captcha) - a special security code that prevents spam on the site. Added, usually in different forms on pages - registration, comment, login, etc. This allows you to filter out most of the bots, auto-fill. The code consists of letters and numbers, sometimes distorted by various effects and transformations. Once the plug-ins I've come across captcha - it was a simple Really Simple CAPTCHA to contact form Contact Form 7. Today decided to look for something to sign-up pages, as one of the projects started its regular spam. In the end, managed to select the top plugins, each of which has its own distinctive features and advantages.

Captcha Code
Module Captcha Code one of the easiest that I have met. So I started with it - install and configure Captcha took probably 2-3 minutes. It adds a security code in different forms by - registration, comments, and the login form. Code appears in the form of simple blue characters (letters and numbers), crossed by several lines. "Noise" to protect the picture from the recognition of different software, and users will see the code is not that difficult.

Captcha Code
After installing the module settings, the administrator can choose which characters and how to use them in capchte, as well as which ones to display forms. There localization plugin, so all easy to understand. Definitely the biggest advantage is the ease and speed settings + captcha, in principle, is normal. Need to work WordPress version older than 3.0, the module loaded about 10 thousand times, and the last update was 01/16/2013.

WP-reCAPTCHA
Generally reCAPTCHA Public captcha, which in its time was purchased Google (if I understood correctly), and has been developing under the wing of the online giant. This is one of the most popular scripts used in many CMS and services, it is also almost the most protected from bots.
WP-reCAPTCHA
For the integration of the captcha in wordpress just used a module WP-reCAPTCHA . Setting his classic, but after activating the system you will need to get a special key . On the same page, by the way, you will find all the necessary information for developers, which deals with reCAPTCHA.

In the module settings WP-reCAPTCHA you can choose: activation kapchti for comment and / or a registration form, appearance (theme) capchti, language, HTML standard display code, the error message text. The only thing that confused - support to Wordpress version 2.9.2 and the latest update in early 2012, but nearly 400,000 downloads.

SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam
Plugin SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam is most often found in various compilations - as I understand it is the most popular module for captchas. It allows you to add a security code to all (or selected) forms in WordPress - registration, forgotten password, login, comments. No problem is compatible with Akismet, and also works in WPMU and BuddyPress .
SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam
This module uses a free Open-source development (library) called PHP CAPTCHA. In the image of a abstract background, color, garbled characters, and different "noise" in the form of curves of the text. There is a button "Update capchta", if it is difficult to read.

As for the features of the plug-SI CAPTCHA Anti-Spam, we find there: different settings, valid HTML code to display / show the security code for different forms or users logged on or not (useful when commenting.) Support localization. The module works with WordPress 2.9 to the latest version, the current update of 06.01.2013 and 1.5 million downloads.

Captcha
A distinctive feature of the Captcha module is the use of different mathematical equations. This will protect your site is not only on boats, but also protect against inappropriate and unreasonable people (who sometimes come across). Traditionally, you can configure it to any form of the system - from check-in to comment. Available in almost all language versions. Requirements for WordPress - from version 2.9, the latest release - 08/02/2013 and over 400 thousand downloads.
 Captcha module
The main functions of the plug-Captcha: support for basic math functions - addition, subtraction, multiplication and use with both digital and verbal expressions. Are traditional, settings can see in the picture above. Personally, I liked this variation captcha, and not need to look into some kind of distorted letters to guess that in general there is shown in the picture, and just include the brain. Great module!

Secure CAPTCHA
Saved the last more or less new to me captcha that have not yet met - Secure CAPTCHA . In the image of the security code using the writing. Because of this, the program decryptor difficult to separate different letters to crack CAPTCHA, which will only be understood by humans. In addition, for all words can be used for some additional conversion in order to confuse bots.
Secure CAPTCHA

According to the developers at the expense of what the letters stand out well from the background, no need to look into particular image. Although, frankly, I sometimes still hard to understand what is written there. To use this capchtu, after installation and activation you will need to register on the site developers and get special keys. Then in the settings choose what kind of shape you want to protect against spam. Module is downloaded, not many people - only 5200, but in general the idea is interesting enough. Need to work WordPress version 3.1 and above.

Of course, this is not all plugins captcha in WordPress, of which there are a lot more, and there are far more sophisticated and unusual - the folding part of the picture (as in the puzzle), the choice of a special symbol shown in captchas, etc. I mentioned in a post, only those that are most frequently mentioned in the compilations of various modules + immediately found in the search. The first 4 - definitely a find, I would happily use each of them on their own and developed sites.

Guide to create the perfect WordPress theme

Filled under:

Guide to create the perfect WordPress theme

In ThemeShaper have created a guide for any developer who wants to create a Wordpress theme that meets all standards , so as to offer the best experience purely WordPress.

The guide is intended for developers to WordPress.com issues but is equally useful for any WordPress environment . And what I think is a tremendous interest in Spanish here it is ...

Escapes

  1. All dynamic data must be escaped with esc_attr ()  before being delivered as HTML attributes
  2. All dynamic urls must be escaped with  esc_url () .
  3. If the dynamic data are delivered as an attribute of an HTML script element must be escaped with  esc_js () .
  4. SQL queries containing dynamic data must be escaped with  $ WPDB-> prepare () .

  1. All text visible to the user should be prepared for translation.
  2. Avoid HTML into chains  of functions "gettext" whenever possible.
  3. The output of  sprintf ()  must be escaped  in the text strings used in the attributes.
  4. Locators printf ()  must be escaped  before inclusion in HTML attributes.
  5. Provides context  where needed.
  6. Avoid  anti-patterns  common.
Requests (queries)
  1. Direct SQL requests should be avoided. It is best to use one of the new objects  WP_Query  when possible.
  2. They can be used unlimited requests. Basically, this means that the parameter  posts_per_page  of  WP_Query  not be set to  -1 . Furthermore, the parameter  numberposts  of  get_posts ()  (and similar functions) must also have a positive value.
  3. The large requests be cached so  transient .
  4. Can not use  query_posts () . If you need to modify the main demand is better to use the filter  pre_get_posts . If you need to retrieve entries besides the main request is best to use the new object  WP_Query .
  5. Empty values should not be passed to the argument   post__in  used to create a new  WP_Query . If you're using a dynamic value that should be empty is important to make sure it is empty before using the value in the request ( example ).
  6. Requests for terms to be checked in a facility that has 10,000 terms.
Submissions to the queue ( enqueues )
  1. All others including files must be compatible with the license  GPL .
  2. Make sure you use the appropriate protocol  to put others on hold files.
  3. Make sure you use the appropriate hooks  to put on hold scritpts and styles.
Scripts
  1. Use the scripts included in the standard installation if any.
  2. Custom scripts should not be minimized.
  3. The scripts include third-party can not be minimized but should include the following:
  • The name of the library.
  • Version Number
  • License
  • URL
Styles
  1. The  main stylesheet  (style.css) it must hold for the action wp_enqueue_scripts .
  2. Never use overflow: hidden  to contain floating objects (floats). A better alternative is to use  micro clearfix .
  3. The key  ! important  should not be used where a specification is sufficient.
  4. Putting on Google expects a source of several blocks of characters includes conditionally blocks with gettext.
  5. Are not permitted in the style attributes HTML tags.
Conflict with plugins

The environment WordPress.com is overloaded with a lot of plugins that provide functionality shared by all threads. To give users a consistent experience should not be included in the topics that duplicate functionality of plugins. This should also be applicable to other settings.

When designing themes for WordPress.com this is what is used:
  1. Advertising options are managed  WordAds .
  2. Custom color settings are managed with the plugin  Custom Colors .
  3. Custom font settings are managed with the plugin  Custom Fonts .
  4. The favicons are managed with the plugin  Blavatar .
  5. Support is used  HiDPI  for pictures uploaded by users
  6. The infinite scroll it offers  Jetpack .
  7. Open Graph Protocol
  8. Support Twitter meta tag
  9. Different  widgets
Data Portability

Ensure that user content does not change when the subject is very important. The following features of the standard installation of WordPress, but are great by themselves, can cause a change in the content of the user or may not be available if activated from the topic.
  1. Entry Types personalize public
  2. Public custom taxonomies
  3. Custom Fields field goal or tickets
  4. Shortcodes (shortcodes)
Theme Options

If your theme includes custom settings is highly recommended to use the customizer instead of a custom screen management. Doing so has many advantages:
  1. Users can see your changes immediately, as it adapts to the user interface.
  2. You have to write a lot less code.
  3. You have user interface modules for most common situations.
If your item needs to offer a management screen custom settings these are the requirements:
  1. Must be a child menu Appearance menu, with the title "Theme Options".
  2. It requires the use of the  Settings API  in WordPress.
  3. All adjustments should save an "array" series.
  4. The default settings should not be inserted in the database until the installation or an http request.
  5. All values must be sanitized before storing them in the database.
  6. You must use the functionality of the standard installation for any need for file uploads.
Most of these requirements, if not all, are in the  sample settings file topics for beginners .

Miscellaneous
  1. They used the "loops" complete in all templates. It is not enough simply to call the_post () in single.php or page.php template how.
  2. The  $ content_width  overall should be well defined.
complete in all templates
Usability Guides

The  unit test data for WordPress.org themes  is full of entries and pages designed to carry your theme to its limits. Download  the data  and import them to your test server. Test your theme with all available tests will help you ensure that your topic will be flexible enough to handle a wide variety of real user data.

Easy way to reduce the size of your WordPress

Filled under:

Easy way to reduce the size of your WordPress

There are many possible elements that can increase the size, weight and load of a WordPress website and does not escape from this danger. In fact, there are default behaviors of our beloved CMS contributing to overload the size of your website .

One such WordPress default behaviors that contribute to taking up extra space in your facility is the management that makes the images you upload . I mean ...

Each time you upload a picture to illustrate an entry, WordPress automatically creates other sizes , lower than you uploaded. The idea is good, do not think, but based on the fact that you do not need to use your post the full size of the images you upload , resizing of HTML (you know, is pulling or shrinking the image) but it is better to use a version that best matches the width of your WordPress theme , and by the way you reduce the load time of your home (especially).

For instance, imagine you have a great vacation photo of 4,000 pixels that weighs 8 Mb If you upload to a public input and as is, but you you reduce the size of objects from the publisher actually be showing less pixels wide and tall but weighed the same image when displaying it on your website, you remember, nothing less than 8 Mb .

Now add what it will take to load the front page of your site if you do the same in each entry of the 10? that show therein. That's it.

That is why WordPress automatically creates small copies of your images, so you can use a size appropriate to the width of your theme and therefore also less weight in " megabytes ".

The idea is good that way, but it turns out, while also taking up space on your hard appreciated - and usually expensive - web hosting plan , then you'll have 3 or 4 more images that do not always use .

And, say, if you never use the average size would not it be better to tell WordPress that does not believe that copy? , or large, or the one you want. I do not recommend removing the miniature size, because if you use the galleries is the one used.

Getting it is simple , just go to your Desktop WordPress side menu " Settings -> Media "and just put a" zero "the size or sizes you would not want to automatically create WordPress.

In this example I deleted capture all sizes except the miniatures:

deleted capture all sizes

Perhaps it will seem too radical, but if you think about it why would you go up the 8 Mb picture?, would not it be better to reduce the pixels before uploading? .

Normally, except in sites dedicated to photography, never need to upload images larger than the display size on a regular basis your WordPress theme , so would not it be better not occupy space unnecessarily expensive hosting?.

Meno leave your decision, but you know how to do, andvery easy.

Transform static HTML-site in WordPress

Filled under:

Transform static HTML-site in WordPress
Recently, while reading one of my favorite forums, I came across a question on how to convert a static website developed using Dreamweaver, a WordPress-theme, and thus to make it fast and really straining. At first I thought it was impossible, or at least it will not be easy, but after seeing the responses of others, I realized that I was wrong. While this process is not so simple in fact, it can be done quickly and easily! And here we are not limited to Dreamweaver. Almost any site can be converted to WordPress- theme. (Please note that at the end of this article, I gave a few reasons why you should think carefully about the consequences of such a transition.)

If you're holding a old static website that you would like to "draw" on a content management system (CMS) such as WordPress, and thus not really going into the details and technical issues, then this guide is for you. In general, it involves two main steps, aimed at the transfer of your static site into the database as WordPress pages and posts. Step one : Gather all the static pages of your site in one place (this can be done with HTTrack, if necessary). Stage Two : Import the page with a simple WordPress-Plugin.

Let's start with the basics. Not so important, how the code was developed your site, so that when a user visits your site, it does collect all Delate into one (with blotches of server-side images from different folders, and so on), which we otherwise call the HTML-page . Even if some elements of the page are dynamic, the code itself is assembled in one place, and can be moved to WordPress in working condition. There may be exceptions, which I will omit here but most sites be transportable very successful. So even if your site contains pages with the. Php, which runs the files header.inc and footer.php, as the user will see this main page in the browser, the resulting source code will be assembled in one place, as if it were written by hand HTML-page. Is the type of code you want to convert your site to WordPress via the above method in this article.

If you already have an old static HTML-site, which has no inclusions from the server, then you already have everything you need to move to WordPress. In this case, you can skip the next step and go to the section titled "Importruem content in WordPress».

Transform your dynamic pages to static

HTTrack Website Copier allows you to completely deflate the website to your hard drive. If any pages dynamically linked to each other, use the blotches on the server side to dynamically add data to each page (such as the header of the site, the basement, the menu), then you will need to set up a mirror site HTTrack with all the patches, and recreated the site on your hard disk. Usually does not take much time, but it all depends on the size of your site, of course. Fortunately, you can just run it, and do other things, but at this time all of your site will be pumped from the server. There are a lot of options you can use. Most of you just use the GUI instead of going into details. In this document, there is a lot of useful screenshots to help you understand everything.

Personally, I like to run the program from the command prompt on your Linux, and used with the option-K, that the reference to use the absolute URL. When I run it from the command line, I use something like:

httrack http://www.yoursite.com-O / home / you / somefolder-K

But I can not know what will be your code if you suddenly decide to use the command line instead of the GUI. You need to read the documentation to get it right for your project.

No matter how you start HTTrack, or what options you use, as soon as you have a folder that contains the entire site, all static HTML-page, you are ready to move to WordPress.

Import content in WordPress

Start by installing a fresh copy of WordPress. Then add the following plugin and activate it.

WordPress-plugin Import HTML Pages

Once you activate it, go to Settings and set the there are some options. You can choose either to create pages or posts (not together). When I was using this plugin, I opted to create pages. Now you need to specify how the plugin should recognize the "just content" (without all the surrounding code  theme, side panedey and basements). My content was wearing a div-element with id content, so it was very easy, as well, so your content can be designed very differently, unique HTML-tags, you can adjust the following settings.

WordPress-plugin Import HTML Pages

Once you've set up all the options, you are ready to run the plugin. It's pretty simple: you have a new WordPress-blog, with all the content pages of your old static site.

At this stage, you will probably want to create a design in the form of WordPress-theme, or use the new design. Personally, I think that there is an advantage to use the new theme. Right now is the time to give a refreshing look to your site, do not you? In any case, the conversion of HTML-theme in the WordPress theme is beyond the scope of this guide.

You should also think about how to make some referrals, but in general, look for just a few minutes you have had your old static site to a new blog based on WordPress.

Additional Notes: Before you start the transfer, please consider The following notes.

1. Although WordPress greatly simplifies the support site, and offers a variety of modern advantages, there are many aspects to consider. For example, a static site always loads faster than dynamic, especially if your site uses a dynamic database. If your site takes a huge amount of traffic, the server is likely to average bear load, if your site is static, for a site on WordPress for large volumes of traffic, will probably need a more powerful server. If you think that this can hurt you somehow, then you can consider in order to upgrade your server or to change hosting company.

2. You may have problems with changing URL. There is a good chance that you will have to put every last page redirect to a new, or you will have to learn and focus on creating automatic redirects.

3. Some things may not work. It is impossible to predict with any page on your site, scripts, or items may have problems.

Best of all, if you spend the first practice test transfer site, and see what problems may arise. As it is done quickly, the first test will help you avoid the various problems in the future.

Notice of pending entries or draft in WordPress
WordPress has many virtues, but one of them is that - by default - come prepared for a collaborative environment , it has no user management system and publications such as the environment requires, for example, which require a publishing flow .

A few days ago we saw how to alert users when their articles have been published but what advise the editor when items pending approval? , you're safe with me that is a feature that you miss on any site with multiple users and different profiles, which require a monitoring entries before publication .

Well, we will incorporate it, it is very easy ...

Notices of pending entries ... using code ...

There was an old plugin, now abandoned, which offered email notifications to the administrator when creating a draft entry. The problem is warned whenever the input modified, becoming a nuisance rather than a solution.

A code review of it solves the problem ...

To do this open your plugin function and add the following code:

Notices of pending entries sing code
 Works joke.
Notices of outstanding tickets

Notices of outstanding tickets ... (and more) with plugins ...

If you have plugins over multiple and varied options, some of which we have seen for other uses:

  • Edit Flow : again, this fantastic editorial control plugin also includes notices of pending entries, reviews and much more.
  • Revisionary : This plugin makes part of Edit flow of messages, with a complete review of entries, perfect way to manage the editorial flow.
  • Status Notifier : full plugin which alerts the administrator actually decide to email you when an entry has to be revised. You can also (optionally) notify the author when approval for publication, or if it is rejected.

You see, that it is not by chance.
